If one were to build happiness with tangible
materials, that soul would certainly, but certainly choose to create
furniture for the ages. And others with far lesser talents, would choose
to be part of dream by letting these wonders pass through hands that warm
with the touch. (How's that for a load of hooey?!!!) |
|
We of little talent at George The Second are very
happy in our home of brick and stone, as keepers of glorious works from
the previous three centuries' craftsmen. Specializing in French and
English pieces primarily from the first half of the twentieth century,
we take real pride in a presentation of variety for all tastes, all
needs, and all purses. |

While we believe that
our selection is substantial on the premises--five thousand square
feet--we are supported with three warehouses totaling thirteen thousand
additional feet, along with a refinishing shop usually manned with five
lovers of wood and greenbacks. The greenbacks probably win-out in a very
closely contested race, with wood-love just a tad behind. |
|
Our turnover allows
the "boys" to completely refurbish approximately twenty pieces
each week, in addition to the selections that cry-out for only a good
waxing. What you will find, however, is that most of our
"inventory" has received the complete treatment, inclusive of
full refinishing, re-silvering, leather replacement, keys/locks/hinges,
and a kiss for every wonderful bit of carving found in need of attention
and affection. |

While merchandise arrives almost daily to it's
temporary home in Orange, the real journeys end monthly at Long Beach
via containers from Rouen, Lyon, Marseille, and Paris France, along with
Cardiff, Hull, York, and Kidderminster England. As direct importers and
hands-on refinishers, we believe our prices are superbly competitive. |
|
And perhaps a key to the extraordinary success of the
last five years of a twenty three year venture lies in a lay-a-way
program featuring twenty percent down, and one year to clear. This
allows purchasing prior to lottery settlements, but actually works
wonders for anyone building a home, planning a move, or stretching a
budget. |

We sincerely
invite all lovers of brown wood to come and have a look at our piles.
Last years pile-contest winner did manage to stack forty six pieces of
furniture atop the back of a tortoise, and was promptly rewarded with a
kiss from the queen. (The queen and the contestant then disappeared, but
were spotted on the 110 freeway just last month.) The full details of
that story are to be printed in our future catalog, with planned
distribution to Eastern Mongolia.
I would like to end on a serious note!! Dinner is
ready. Gotta' go!
